Project 1 - Technical Training for Returning Refugee
Reintegration & Sustainable Livelihoods

CHAKAM School of the Bible, in equal partnership with SSHADA (Southern Sudan Humanitarian Action Development Agency) within this project seeks to improve the physical and economic security of returning refugees between the ages of 15 and 28 in Kajo-Keji, Southern Sudan.  The project consists of creating a technical section at the Lire Secondary School, to provide youth with technical and vocational training in areas such as geometrical construction, the manufacturing of construction materials, computer science, secretarial studies, agro-forestry, and business entrepreneurship.  Internships and post-conflict trauma counselling services are also offered.  As a result of this project, 175 youth are furthering their education and gaining new skills that enable them to find employment opportunities.   As part of the private sector development in the region, the Lire Secondary School is becoming a demonstration and distribution site for building materials and its computer and Internet lab is available to the community.Financing of this project is shared between federal government, provincial government  and community sources.

Project 3 – Peru Jungle – Exchange of Indigenous Knowledge

Jubilation Residential Centres Inc. was a secondary partner in an Indigenous Peoples Partnership Program (IPPP) project, funded by CIDA, during the month of January of 2008.   A number of indigenous leaders from both Canada and the jungle in Peru (Province of Junin – communities known as Tres Unidos de Matereni) met face to face for discussions in Lima.  This project was successfully completed, a full community-based plan was developed, and it was to go to the next phase of development shortly after January of 2008.  However, CIDA started to internally evaluate the National IPPP program.   This evaluation is still not completed.

So in the meantime, Jubilation has continue to work with Tres Unidos de Matereni, now in a primary leading role, in the area of provision of health needs.  Jubilation, in partnership with ACED-Peru, Operation Blessing (700 Club) and CHAKAM School of the Bible, has been able to provide for the delivery of anti-parasite medication for one full year to treat the total population of Tres Unidos de Matereni.  Recently, the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s Chief and Council has joined the efforts of Jubilation Program.

Jubilation is continuing to meet with all partners on a regular basis to further the objectives in the community development plan of Tres Unidos de Matereni.
