ASSOCIATION OF BIBLICAL LIFE EDUCATORS - CANADA
COMMENTS BY DR. MICHAEL
LAKE
The Church is becoming too much like the world. The
methodologies for coping that the world has to offer fall short of the
healing and restoration promised by the Word of God.
True healing and restoration does not come through
secular counselling. It comes through true Biblical discipleship. Jesus
instructed the Church to "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe
all things that I have commanded you..." Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV. He
commanded us top disciple and to educate the nations to live the Word. In
so doing, we bring a greater depth of healing that the world can ever
give.
The Association of Bible Life Educators - International and its Canadian arm are dedicated to promoting true
Biblical ministry and restoration through discipleship and Biblical Life
Education. Presently, the "counselling" ministry of the Church looks too
much like to world. Thus the world feels it has a right to control it.
When we return to discipleship and true ministry, not only will we see
mighty restoration, but we will also see the world step back and allow us
to fulfill our callings!

As members of the Association of Biblical-Life
Educators - Canada (ABLE) we are committed to the proclamation of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ to every person and to the dignity and worth of
each individual. We are dedicated to advancing the welfare of those who
seek our assistance and to the maintenance of high standards of
professional conduct and competence.
In order to uphold our standards, as members of the
Association, we covenant to follow the guidelines below :
- We will maintain accountability to the church
organization in which we have ecclesiastical standing.
- We will avoid bringing our personal or
professional issues into the educational relationship. We will guard the
individual rights and personal dignity of the client through an
awareness of and avoidance of stereotyping and discrimination (i.e.
biases based on age, disability, ethnicity, gender, race, religion, or
sexual preference).
- We will remain abreast of new developments in the
discipleship/Biblical Life educational field through continuing
educational activities.
- We will seek out relationships with other
Biblical Life Educators/Biblical counsellors for mutual support and
prayer.
- We will manage our personal lives in a godly
fashion and will seek appropriate assistance for our own personal
problems or conflicts.
- We will diagnose and provide ministry only for
those problems or issues that are within the reasonable boundaries of
our competence.
- We will neither claim nor imply professional
qualifications which exceed those possessed. We are responsible for
correcting any misrepresentations of these qualifications by others.
- We are aware of the intimacy of the
educational/discipleship relationship. We will show respect for the
client by avoiding activities that seek to meet our personal needs at
the expense of the client.
- We will not abandon or neglect clients. If we are
unable, or unwilling for appropriate reasons, to provide professional
help or continue a professional relationship, every reasonable effort
will be made to arrange for continuation of treatment with another
professional.
- We will continue educational/discipleship
relationships only so long as it is reasonably clear that the clients
are benefiting from the relationship.
- When a client’s condition indicates that there is
a clear and imminent danger to the client or others, we will take
reasonable personal action or inform responsible authorities.
- We will inform clients before or at the time the
ministry relationship commences, of the purposes, goals, techniques,
rules and procedures, and limitations that my affect the
relationship.
- We will not disclose client confidences to
anyone, except : as mandated by law; to prevent a clear and immediate
danger to someone; in the course of a civil, criminal or disciplinary
action arising from the education/discipleship where the Biblical
educator/counsellor is a defendant; for purposes of supervision or
consultation; or by previously obtained written permission (for
instance, for research purposes). In cases involving more than one
person (as client) written permission will be obtained from all legally
accountable persons who have been present during the ministry before any
disclosure will be made.
- We will not use these standards of
confidentiality to avoid intervention when it is necessary (e.g. when
there is evidence of abuse of minors, the elderly, the disabled, the
physically or mentally incompetent).
- We will recognize that Jesus Christ is the
Wonderful Counsellor and Teacher and submit to His Lordship and Guidance
